Three prizes of $1,000 each have been made available annually by the University of British Columbia for students whose doctoral dissertations are of exceptional quality and originality, and make a significant contribution to their academic field. One prize will be offered in each of the following fields: social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health sciences. The prizes are awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and recipients will be chosen from amongst those nominated to the CAGS/Proquest Distinguished Dissertation Awards competition.
Eligibility
Winners of the UBC Dissertation Prize are chosen from applications submitted to the CAGS/Proquest Distinguished Dissertation Awards competition. To be eligible to apply for the UBC Dissertation prize, applicants must meet the criteria for the CAGS ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award as follows:
- A dissertation in any discipline in engineering, health sciences and natural sciences completed and accepted by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023.
- A dissertation in any discipline in the fine arts, humanities, and social sciences completed and accepted by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023.
Two top ranked candidates in Category 1 will be selected to receive the Dissertation Prize – one in health sciences and one in natural sciences and engineering.
One top ranked candidate will be selected to receive the Dissertation Prize in Category 2 for fine arts, social sciences and humanities.
