Notes on Eligibility
In 1990 the University/Higher Education Act declared a new degree structure be implemented at the universities. This new model closely resemble the North American pattern of a 3 or 4 year *Bakalar (Bc.)(Bachelors) and a 1-year Magistr (Mgr.) (Masters). However, it has not been decided how the Bakaklar will be established. A number of Institutions are suggesting that it will be considered a terminal degree. Other universities are citing the proposed Bakalar as an incomplete degree. Until the new degree structure is established and can be evaluated more closely, we will continue to require the Absolventa qualification as a basis for admission to graduate studies at U.B.C. *Many universities/institutions in the Czech Republic are postponing the introduction of the Bakalar until resources become available to design and implement the degree. The provisions of the 1990 Act are not being interpreted consistently across institutions.
ECTS Credit System
3-year bachelor degrees for master's degree admission and 5-year master's degrees for doctoral degree admission are accepted at UBC. Please note that some countries may have both the old academic degrees and the new ECTS degrees.

English Language Test
Applicants from a university in Czechia in which English is not the primary language of instruction must provide results of an English language proficiency examination as part of their application.
Applicants from a university in Czechia in which English is the primary language of instruction may not need an English language proficiency examination as part of their application. Please note that graduate programs have the right to request a language test when deemed necessary, even if the language of instruction has been English.
