G+PS has compiled data and visualizations on graduate admissions, enrolment and degrees awarded in UBC Graduate Student Data dashboard.
Admissions
Admission statistics and reports cover the application process from the preliminary entry of a student's application, to the offer, acceptance and finally registration. Admissions period for a particular year refers to registration periods that span May through the following April. This includes the Summer session (May - August) and the following Winter session (September - April). For example, the admissions period for 2024 would include applications submitted for programs starting from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025. Note that the registration period is not the same as the UBC Academic Year which runs September through August.
We currently have data from 1995 onwards. Finalized data for registration years 1995 - 2004 were extracted on Feb-14-2006, and finalized data for registration years 2005 onwards are extracted each March 1st. The “cycle end” for a given admissions year happens in March of the following year. For example, the cycle end for 2023 admissions year was March 1, 2024.
ENROLMENT
Enrolment statistics and reports represent the students' time at UBC. These times include registration (for graduate students this includes course work and thesis research), on leave periods, extensions, and withdrawals.
We currently have data from 1991 onwards.
DEGREES AWARDED
Upon successful completion of their studies master's and doctoral students apply to graduate. This process is split into two distinct points - conferral of the degree (approval by Senate) and the optional convocation (ceremony). Conferral happens twice a year - May and November. Convocation also occurs twice a year - May and November - with May being the much larger session lasting over a week.
We currently have data from 1991 onwards, with data last retrieved January 2024. The information provided here is presented using the conferral dates.
